Wainsgate Dances is an international programme of workshops, residencies, performances and other events curated and organised by Charlie and Rob Hopper, and based at Wainsgate Chapel outside Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire since 2017.

It’s a project where artists come together to explore and question what dance can do. It’s also an experiment in finding new models of resourceful and sustainable artist-led development and production.

In 2021, the Wainsgate Dances project received Arts Council funding for a programme which includes residencies, workshops, work-in-progress sharing, film screenings, open practice sessions and other events.

The programme is working creatively within the Covid 19 restrictions to offer live and online dance activities.

In 2021 year there were workshops and performances and daily Open Practice sessions either live or online every weekday throughout the year. There were also 18 week-long residencies with artists including Kate Brown, Seke Chimutengwende, Katye Coe, Vanessa Grasse, Samir Kennedy, Alexandrina Hemsley, Wendy Houstoun, Bun Kobayashi, Leah Marojevic, Florence Peake, Bakani Pick-Up and Anushiye Yarnell taking place with the support of Arts Council England and with funds raised through Open Practice Online.
